Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at the Peki Fire Station on Sunday, May 24, 2026, responded to two separate road traffic accidents along the Peki–Asikuma stretch in the Volta Region, rescuing a total of four trapped victims.
The first incident occurred at approximately 7:18 a.m. near the Customs Barrier at Asikuma on the Ho–Asikuma highway. According to the GNFS, firefighters from the Peki Fire Station swiftly moved to the scene following a distress call involving a Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck with registration number GR 1226-22.
The vehicle, which was travelling from Accra to Peki, reportedly sustained partial damage to its engine compartment and rear section following the crash. Firefighters successfully rescued one occupant who had become trapped in the vehicle.
While emergency operations were still underway, the fire officers encountered another road traffic accident at Asikuma Junction.
The second incident involved a MAN Diesel cargo truck with registration number GT 4958 W, which was transporting yams from Bimbila in the Northern Region to Accra.
The GNFS personnel acted promptly and rescued three victims who had been trapped in the truck, preventing what could have escalated into a more serious situation.
The causes of both accidents remain unknown and are currently under investigation by the appropriate authorities.
Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service has once again appealed to motorists to exercise caution while using the roads and strictly observe road safety regulations to help reduce the increasing incidence of road traffic accidents.
The Service further reiterated the importance of responsible driving, adherence to speed limits, and regular vehicle maintenance to ensure the safety of all road users.
