Journalism students at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) have received training in modern media practices at a programme organised by the School of Journalism and Media on Friday, March 27, 2026. The training, held on campus, was aimed at equipping students with practical skills in news gathering, writing, and multimedia storytelling.
Delivering the welcome address, the Dean of the School of Journalism, Prof. Etse Sikanku, expressed concern about limited job opportunities for some graduates and urged students to develop relevant skills to remain competitive in the job market.
The guest speaker, Beatrice Adu, a news presenter at TV3, took participants through the fundamentals of journalism, stressing the importance of the “5 Ws and H”—who, what, where, when, why, and how—in effective news reporting. She also addressed writing styles and multimedia storytelling, drawing on her professional experience in the media industry, including her time at Joy News. She expressed concern about declining communication skills among the younger generation.
Miss Adu explained that television writing requires scripts to be concise and straight to the point, while radio writing demands clarity and descriptive language to engage listeners. She further highlighted the opportunities and challenges in the digital media space and advised students to adapt to the changing media environment. The programme ended with Miss Adu encouraging first-year students to rely on credible sources and remain open to continuous learning, although time constraints prevented her from completing her presentation.
