Thousands of Muslim faithful have converged at the Independence Square in Accra for the observance of Eid-ul-Fitr 2026, marking the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.
Leading the congregational prayers is the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, supported by several imams drawn from Zongo communities across the country.
The event has attracted high-level dignitaries, including President John Dramani Mahama, Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, as well as other senior government officials.
Eid-ul-Fitr is being observed today, Friday, March 20, 2026, following the sighting of the new crescent moon, which signals the beginning of Shawwal 1447.
