Operatives of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Squad (NAIMOS) have arrested a notorious illegal miner, Iddrisu Zakari, popularly known as Yaayaa, who has been operating in the Osino township and its surrounding areas in the Eastern Region.
The arrest took place at Bonsu on Monday, November 10, 2025, around 6:06 p.m., after Zakari reportedly agreed to meet NAIMOS operatives to negotiate the release of his arrested associates and to discuss a possible halt to ongoing investigations into his illegal mining operations.
Zakari’s arrest follows a successful raid conducted by NAIMOS at his galamsey site on the night of Friday, November 7, 2025. During the operation, 32 Nigerien nationals and four Ghanaian guards armed with machetes were apprehended.
The suspect has since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and prosecution.
