Sam George Touches Lives at Nsawam Prison with Food and Cash Donation

The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has presented a donation of food items and cash to support the inmates of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.

According to the MP who also doubles as the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, the gesture is part of his commitment to promoting compassion, inclusion, and dignity for all members of society, including those behind bars.

At a donation exercise held on his behalf by his wife, Vera George, the MP donated 50 gallons of cooking oil, 200 cartons of tomato paste, 110 packs of toilet rolls, 110 packs of detergents, 20 bags of maize, 20 bags of gari, and an undisclosed hefty amount of money to support inmates of the facility.

Mrs George, speaking on behalf of her husband, said the initiative was born out of a deep sense of compassion and a belief that every Ghanaian, regardless of their circumstances, deserves dignity and care.

“We often forget those behind bars, but they, too, are part of our society. Hon. Sam George believes that humanity must come before judgment. These men and women may have fallen short, but they still deserve to be treated with love and respect.”

She explained that her husband’s motivation for the gesture stems from his conviction that leadership is also about empathy and action.

“My husband always says that leadership is not just about laws or speeches, but about touching lives. That’s what this is about, reminding our brothers and sisters here that they are not forgotten,” Mrs. George added.

According to her, the donation was also a symbolic reminder that everyone deserves a second chance.

“Behind these walls are people who can be reformed and reintegrated into society. We must create an environment that gives them hope,” she stressed.

Authorities at the Nsawam Prisons, led by the Eastern Regional Prisons Commander, who also doubles as the Officer in Charge of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, DDP Patrick Thomas Seidu, expressed their gratitude to Sam George for the thoughtful support, describing it as a timely intervention that would ease the burden on the facility.

In addition to his work as a legislator and minister, Sam George has gained recognition for his commitment to social welfare, often extending help to marginalised and vulnerable groups across the country.
