Serwaa Amihere, Ackah-Blay, Sixtus Ullo, Ebo Hawkson, Other Journalists Feature in 2025 Class of 824 New Lawyers

Journalists and media practitioners featured prominently on the 2025 General Legal Council’s call to the bar, which took place at the Accra International Conference Centre today [Oct 10, 2025].

They were part of the 824 newly qualified lawyers who joined the roll of lawyers after satisfying the requirements for the practice of the profession.

They are Graphic Online’s court correspondent, Emmanuel Ebo Hawkson; Broadcast journalist with the EIB Network, Serwaa Amihere; Legal Affairs correspondent of Media General, Joseph Ackah-Blay; 3News’ Sixtus Dong Ullo; and Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s court correspondent, Yvonne Asare-Offei.

The Acting Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, led the newly qualified lawyers to take their professional oath at the AICC auditorium, which was packed with friends, families and well-wishers of the applicants.

Aside from the journalists, six persons with disabilities (PWDs) were also called to the Bar at the ceremony, which lasted four hours.

Also called to the bar was Paul Chen, a Chinese-born entrepreneur based in Kumasi.

The Acting Chief Justice himself presented their qualifying certificates to them.

Justice Avril Lovelace-Johnson, a Justice of the Supreme Court, the Attorney-General, Dr Dominic Ayine, his deputy, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, the Director of Legal Education, Prof Raymond Atuguba and the Ghana Bar Association President, Efua Ghartey, took turns to hand over the lawyers’ qualifying documents to them.
