President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated an 18-member Joint Cyber Security Committee (JCC) at a ceremony in Burma Camp to launch the National Cyber Security Awareness Month 2025.
Speaking at the ceremony on the theme “Building a Safe, Informed and Accountable Digital Space”, Mr Mahama said the committee, which includes representatives from various security and intelligence units, will ensure coherence, coordination, and proactive measures in the national defence architecture.
“Cybersecurity must not be fragmented. It demands unity of purpose, a clear strategy, and disciplined education. Cyber-crime ignores borders,” he stated.
The President continued, “A hacker in one country can breach systems halfway across the world within seconds, and that is why Ghana cannot act alone. We must collaborate with the rest of the world.”
President Mahama noted that Ghana is already a signatory to both the Malabo and Budapest Conventions on Cybercrime. He disclosed that Ghana will take another historic step this month to ratify and sign the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime.
“This treaty equips us with new tools to investigate attacks, prosecute cyber criminals, and protect critical information infrastructure.”
He said that through school-based curricula, community training, and public awareness campaigns, perceptions about cybersecurity will be demystified.
