The National Leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly criticised two of its regional chairmen, describing their recent comments as “baseless” and having no connection to the party’s values.
In a strongly worded statement dated September 28, 2025, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party urged the public to ignore the pronouncements of Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi) and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC).
The two Chairmen stirred controversy with separate claims. Abronye said on live television that he could manipulate the compilation of polling station albums, while Wontumi alleged that the January 31, 2026, presidential primaries date was set to favour a particular aspirant.
However, the party assured its members in its statement that clear and transparent procedures will be implemented to guarantee fairness at every stage.
“No individual, irrespective of rank or position, has a monopoly or unilateral control over the compilation of polling station albums.”
Touching on Wontumi’s allegation, the party explained that the early congress date was purely a strategic move.
“Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako has been heard alleging that the decision to hold the Party’s presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, was calculated to favour a particular aspirant. The Party affirms that this assertion is unfounded. The decision to hold an early congress is intended solely to provide the Party with sufficient time and strategic advantage to reorganise, reposition, and recapture power in 2028.”
