Klefe Chiefs and Citizens Rally for Support to Transform Klefe Technical Institute

The Klefe Traditional Council has made a strong appeal to the government and citizens to help complete critical infrastructure projects at the Klefe Technical Institute in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region.

Speaking at the 2025 Klefe Yam Festival, the Paramount Chief of Klefe, Togbe Koku Dzaga XI, urged government agencies and development partners to step in to finish a five-unit student dormitory and a teacher’s residence, both started through community self-help and fundraising.

The Paramount Chief called on the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to provide an additional classroom block and an e-learning centre to improve teaching and learning.

Togbe Dzaga XI also sounded an environmental alarm, warning that illegal stone mining, plastic pollution, and deforestation were threatening the area’s farmlands and fisheries.
He urged all stakeholders to intensify collaborative efforts to protect the environment and sustain local livelihoods.

The Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Dr Alex Segbefia, stated that the government will immediately provide resources to complete the dormitory and teacher accommodation projects. He added that GETFund has been directed to assess the institute’s needs for inclusion in its next funding cycle.

Evans Kwame Buame, Central Planning Committee Chairman, described the Klefe Technical Institute as a “young but fast-growing” school already shaping the future of local youth.

The institute, absorbed by the government only last year and now with about 150 students, operates with just four permanent teachers, relying heavily on volunteers.

Mr Buame highlighted urgent needs, including a proper dining hall, completion of boys’ and girls’ dormitories, an administration block, and a school vehicle. He appealed to the Klefe diaspora to “come home” and support the institute, which currently offers electrical and catering programmes and plans to add building and construction and other skill-based courses next academic year.

He further encouraged the youth to avoid social vices such as drug abuse and to embrace Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a pathway to self-reliance and community development.
