President Mahama arrives in Singapore after Securing Major Deals in Japan

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Singapore to begin the second leg of his two-nation visit. The trip comes on the heels of his successful working visit to Japan, where he participated in TICAD 9 and secured several key investment and cooperation agreements for Ghana.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Japan Investment Conference concluded with significant bilateral outcomes. Among them is the revival of the Volivo to Dorfor Adidome Bridge project across the Volta River, with both countries committing to provide the additional funding required. The long-anticipated Kumasi inner-city ring road project is also set to commence soon.

A new agreement has been signed with Toyota to expand its operations in Ghana and establish the country as its hub for West Africa. In a groundbreaking development, Ghana also secured a space cooperation agreement with Japan to harness space science for national development.

Beyond infrastructure and technology, Ghana is set to benefit from the training of about 300,000 young people in areas such as artificial intelligence, modern agriculture, green transition, tech startups, and biotechnology. Special cooperation has also been agreed upon to boost rice production in Ghana, anchored on the latest scientific research, in pursuit of national food security.

In addition, the two countries have arranged a strategic industrialisation partnership, with Japan considering a dedicated $1.5 billion investment in Africa in the short term.

His three-day visit will include engagements with the Singaporean business community as he pitches his government’s priority areas for partnership.
