The Rotary Club of Accra-East has officially inducted Rotarian Mary Elorm Addo as its 40th President at a colourful handover ceremony held on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
The event, held at the African Regent Hotel, was attended by Past District Governors David Amankwah and Willie Keteku, as well as distinguished Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors, business leaders, and community stakeholders. It marked the commencement of a new leadership era for the club under the international theme, “Unite for Good.”
In her acceptance speech, President Elorm described the moment not just as a leadership transition but a celebration of the club’s four decades of unwavering service, fellowship, and impact.
“It is going to be: Forty years of service. Forty years of fellowship. Forty years of significant impact and forty years of service above self. Indeed, we are The Experienced Club,” she said.
Elorm also paid glowing tribute to her predecessor, Rotarian Dorothy, for her inspiring and dedicated leadership over the past year.
“Let me begin by expressing my heartfelt appreciation to our soon-to-be immediate past president, Dorothy. Your year of service has been inspiring. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our club, as demonstrated by the amazing service projects and endearing fellowship we have witnessed over the last twelve months.”
Elorm outlined her vision for the 2025/2026 Rotary year, anchored on three key pillars—Unity in Service, Experience in Action, and Visibility and Growth.
She emphasised the importance of collaboration across all levels of the Rotary family and the value of mentorship from seasoned members in empowering the next generation.
She also revealed two global grant projects on the horizon—“Let Kokrobite Work,” a vocational skills and youth empowerment program, and an $87,000 health intervention to enhance the Hopewell Clinic at Agbogbloshie for over 40,000 underserved residents.
Together, these local and international projects are estimated to cost GHS 900,000 and $182,000, respectively.
While acknowledging the challenges ahead, President Elorm pledged to lead with integrity and serve with passion.
“To my fellow Rotarians and passionate Rotaractors, this is not my journey alone—it is ours. Let’s truly unite for good and ensure this year becomes a milestone in our club’s remarkable story.”
She ended her remarks with a rallying call to action, affirming her readiness to serve and encouraging members to make the club’s 40th year a remarkable one.
“Life, they say, begins at 40—and so ours has just begun!”
Among some of the key initiatives planned for the year are:
-
Save the Tatas – A flagship breast cancer screening and awareness project will continue at Madina Market, reaching over 500 women with free clinical breast examinations and education, expected to be held on Saturday, 11th October 2025.
-
Education and Wellness Project at the Adenta Community School – A multi-faceted intervention to improve learning outcomes through reading clinics, provision of learning materials and books for their library, career counselling, tree planting, and mental health education for learners and teachers.
-
Donation of a Phototherapy Device to the Jasikan Municipal Hospital – This lifesaving equipment will support neonatal care for jaundiced babies, reducing infant morbidity and mortality in the Oti region.
-

This project will be coupled with sexual reproductive health education to help them make wise and informed decisions about their health and well-being. This will be just 1 out of 17 schools with a total of 1,757 girls in that district that have reached out to us for support in this regard.
-
Protect Your Pearls – A cervical cancer awareness and screening campaign that was birthed from the donation of 50 thermal coagulators to the Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Centre at Battor Catholic Hospital. It will continue to offer free nationwide screenings and education to help detect and prevent this deadly disease among women in Ghana.
