Election 2024: EC Staff to Receive Allowances Next Week

Temporary staff employed by the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) for the 2024 general elections are set to receive their allowances by next week, newsalertgh.com can confirm.

The officials had been awaiting payment for six months, expressing frustration that while elected officials, including the president and members of parliament, had started receiving their salaries, the temporary staff who supervised the elections had been ignored.

In a memo signed by EC Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa and sighted by newsalertgh.com, the Commission explained that the Ministry of Finance had finally released the funds.

“We’re pleased to inform you that the Ministry of Finance has today, Thursday, June 12, 2025, released funds for the payment of temporary staff. The Commission is working around the clock to ensure that payments are made promptly,” an excerpt of the memo reads.

Approximately 280,000 temporary staff were employed for the elections. The EC had previously attributed the delay to the Ministry of Finance’s late release of funds.

The staff can expect to receive their stipends by Friday, June 20, 2025, bringing relief to those who have been waiting for their allowances.
