HOT AUDIO: Central Regional NDC Chairman Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu belittles Assin Central MP Nurein Migyimah

The NDC in the Assin Central Constituency is facing a severe internal crisis, with Regional Chairman Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu at the centre of the conflict.

Prof. Asiedu’s recent comments on Rich FM have sparked widespread outrage, as he allegedly belittled MP Nurein Migyimah by referring to him as an “ordinary MP.”

This has further deepened divisions within the party, with many questioning Prof. Asiedu’s leadership and motives, especially since he earlier suspended MP Migyimah in a move that could have automatically handed the seat to the NPP.

His comments have ruffled feathers among party faithful, who feel that Prof. Asiedu’s actions are undermining the party’s chances of success in future elections. Many believe his conduct is driving the party further apart.

Some party executives have accused Prof. Asiedu and Constituency Chairman Baba Gariba of working against Migyimah to make him unpopular before the next general elections. They claim that the two leaders were instrumental in sabotaging Migyimah’s campaign, citing Prof. Asiedu’s suspension of Migyimah just months before the 2024 elections as part of a grand scheme driven by personal animosity towards the MP.

Prof. Asiedu’s Response

Prof. Asiedu has responded to the accusations by boasting about his ability to deploy “mafia tactics” to silence his critics. He claimed to have rendered seven constituency chairmen redundant and even named some of those he said he had “silenced.”

These statements have only added fuel to the fire, with many party members expressing outrage and disappointment. Critics have condemned the regional chairman for his poor public relations and divisive comments.

The party’s internal conflicts have raised serious concerns about its ability to unite and secure electoral success in future elections. MP Migyimah, who won the seat for the party through selflessness, dedication, and commitment to the well-being of constituents, is now seen as a victim of internal sabotage.

Prof. Asiedu’s actions have been widely criticised as divisive and counterproductive, with some calling for his removal as Regional Chairman. His purported targeting of certain constituency chairmen and MP Migyimah, in particular, is believed to be breeding massive divisions within the party.

One of the constituency chairmen, Prof. Asiedu, claimed to have silenced is John Quaicoe, also known as Wontumi Nntake, from the KEEA Constituency. Prof. Asiedu boasted about giving Quaicoe a “nice showdown” and claimed that Quaicoe is now unable to approach either the MP or the MCE.

The situation is further complicated by Prof. Asiedu’s claims that he was instrumental in securing the position of MCE for Baba Gariba due to their working relationship. This has raised concerns that Prof. Asiedu is using his position to reward loyalists and punish critics.

In the Assin Central Constituency, it is alleged that Prof. Asiedu rewarded all those who supported his plan to suspend Migyimah ahead of the 2024 elections with appointments, while those who dedicated themselves to Migyimah’s campaign have been sidelined.

Prof. Asiedu’s actions in the region—and Assin Central in particular—have raised serious questions about his leadership and his commitment to the party’s goal of retaining the parliamentary seat in the future.
