The Eastern Regional Command (ERC) of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) on May 17, 2025, participated in the maiden edition of a forum organised by the Alliance for Koforidua Zongo Development.
Held under the theme “Fighting the Drug Menace in Koforidua Zongo,” the event brought together key stakeholders, including security agencies, religious leaders, and civil society actors, to raise awareness and strategise on eradicating drug abuse, particularly among the youth in Zongo communities.
The forum, which took place in Koforidua Zongo, served as a platform for dialogue and collaboration among agencies committed to public safety and youth development.

Addressing the gathering, Eastern Regional Commander of NACOC, PNCO Grace A-B Tawiah, commended the Alliance for taking proactive steps in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse. She described the initiative as a vital move towards safeguarding the future of young people in the community.
“We all want to see an end to the activities of drug peddlers in our communities,” PNCO Tawiah stated.
“But we must remember not to take the law into our own hands. All arrests and investigations must go through the appropriate legal and institutional channels. NACOC should be the first point of contact when dealing with drug-related offences.”

She emphasised the importance of collaboration, education, and consistent public engagement in preventing drug abuse.
“Let us work together to make Koforidua Zongo a drug-free zone and a national example. Education and awareness are our strongest weapons. The doors of the Commission are always open to families, youth groups, and associations seeking help or information,” she added.
PNCO Tawiah also expressed gratitude to the organisers for providing NACOC the opportunity to reach the public through the community information centre twice weekly. She believes this initiative will deepen awareness and contribute significantly to curbing drug abuse.

Notable dignitaries at the forum included the Ada Hene, Eastern Regional Chief Imam Yusif Hamdani, Regional Grand Mufti Sheikh Ibrahim Saliah, Koforidua Zongo Imam, and representatives from the Eastern Regional Ghana Police Command, New Juaben North and South Police Commands, the Mental Health Directorate, and the Council of Koforidua Zongo Chiefs.
