A heavy downpour on Sunday afternoon has once again laid bare the vulnerability of Accra and its surrounding municipalities to flooding.
The rainfall, which lasted several hours, submerged major parts of the capital city and Tema West, leaving scores of commuters stranded.
Areas including Weija, Kaneshie, Adabraka, Adentan-Dodowa, and sections of the Tema enclave were overwhelmed by floodwaters, destroying property and disrupting daily routines.
The road from the Awudome Roundabout through to the Awudome Cemetery and the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange was completely submerged, leading to the breakdown of multiple vehicles along the flooded route.
Youth in some of the worst-affected communities stepped in to assist drivers by redirecting traffic and warning motorists of hidden drains and deep potholes concealed beneath the floodwaters.
