The Volta and Oti Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) will this evening celebrate individuals and institutions that have significantly contributed to media development in the two regions.
The event, set to take place at the Volta Press Centre in Ho, forms part of activities to mark this year’s World Press Freedom Day (WPFD), observed globally on May 3.
In a press release signed by the GJA Regional Secretary, Mr. Frederick Duodu Takyi, the awards dinner aims to recognise outstanding contributions to journalism and also foster interaction among media practitioners, retired journalists, and key stakeholders.
The event will be chaired by Capt. (Rtd.) George Nfodjo, a former journalist, District Chief Executive, Member of Parliament for Ho, and Ambassador-designate. Mr. James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, will serve as the Guest of Honour.
A highlight of the evening will be a keynote address by Madam Maria Kwami Gwira, a seasoned International Media and Communications Strategist and former Director of Public Affairs at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS). She will speak on the global theme for this year’s WPFD: “Reporting in the Brave New World – The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media.”
The commemorative event is expected to draw participation from across the media spectrum and emphasise the importance of press freedom in the age of rapidly evolving technology.
