Dr. Thomas Anaba emphasised the need for robust health systems to achieve meaningful health outcomes. He made the statement during a visit to the Ho Teaching Hospital in the Volta Region by members of the committee.

The delegation included Dr Arhin Prince Ebenezer, MP for Mfantseman; Alexander Hottordze, MP for Central Tongu; Charles Agbeve, MP for Agotime-Ziope; and Acquah Akwesi Alexander, MP for Akim Oda.

Dr. Anaba noted that the visit would inform a comprehensive report to guide government interventions in enhancing the conditions of public health facilities. He also commended the hospital’s staff and management for their dedication and assured them of government support in addressing key challenges impeding service delivery.

Dr. John Tampouri, Chief Executive Officer of the Ho Teaching Hospital, said the facility is a major referral centre in the Volta Region and serves as a specialist training and research hub in collaboration with the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS). He appealed for increased government support, citing the need for improved clinical infrastructure and a medical education centre.

Dr. Tampouri highlighted the hospital’s growing patient load, overcrowding in wards, and rising mortality rates as critical concerns. Despite these challenges, he said the hospital remains committed to its vision of becoming Ghana’s leading medical tourism hub, and called on all stakeholders for support in realising this goal.
