The Asante Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the occupant of the revered Silver Stool of Asanteman, has been reported dead at 86.
A high-powered delegation from the Mampong Traditional Council travelled to the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, on Monday, April 28, 2025, to officially inform the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in line with tradition.
The formal announcement was made at 4:00 p.m. at the Mampong Silver Stool Palace, following the customary notification of the Asantehene.
Sources close to the palace reveal that Daasebre Osei Bonsu II passed away on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. However, tradition required that the Asantehene be formally informed before any public announcement could be made.
Information indicates that the late Mamponghene was initially taken to the KNUST Hospital in Kumasi on Thursday, April 17, 2025, and was later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he passed away.
