The Akrofu Traditional Council has raised an alarm about individuals posing as Chiefs and Queen Mothers in the Akrofu Traditional Area, attributing false titles to themselves.
According to the Council, the general public ought to disregard these impersonators, since the positions they claim to hold are either already occupied or do not exist according to the area’s customs and traditions.
According to a statement from the Council, several individuals have been presenting themselves with titles such as Ag. Paramount Chiefs, Paramount Queen Mother, Fiator, and Afetorfia, none of which are vacant or recognised. The statement emphasised that the title “Afetorfia” does not even exist within the traditions of Akrofu.
Among those the Council identified as imposters are Kennedy Kwesi Agbotse, a businessman, who has been presenting himself as the Manklalo of Akrofu with the title Togbe Agbo Kwesi II, Ag. Paramount Chief of Akrofu.
Also mentioned were Victor Atefoe, a teacher at Kpando Senior High School, who claimed the title Ag. Afetorfia Afefoe of Akrofu Xeviwofe, and Ahingble Kodzo, a farmer, who presented himself as Fiator of Akrofu. Additionally, Madam Atefoe Eunice, a woman identified as Ag. Mamaga Nyuietor II, claimed to be the Paramount Queen Mother of the Akrofu Traditional Area.
The release clarifies that all these titles are officially occupied, and the individuals mentioned have no legal or traditional standing in the community.
“There is no vacancy in these positions. The individuals carrying themselves as such are fake and are not recognised by the Akrofu Traditional Area or the Council,” stated Mamaga Akua Sabea Nyabor VII, the Paramount Queen Mother and acting President of the Traditional Council.
The Council further explained that the Akrofu Traditional Area recognises only two official stools: the Foli Stool of Akrofu Xevowofe, which is the Paramount Stool, and the Koku Duah or Dzanku Stool of Akrofu Agorve, which is Divisional. Both of these stools are currently occupied by their respective Queen Mothers.
Mamaga Akua Sabea Nyabor VII also addressed the involvement of some high-profile diplomats and retired public servants, claiming that these individuals, along with their networks, are behind the fraudulent claims.
“We are aware of attempts by certain individuals, with powerful networks, to disturb the peace of the area and stall development for their selfish interests. We shall resist this, now and forever,” she declared.
The Council is calling on event organisers, government institutions, security agencies, political parties, churches, and diplomatic agencies not to recognise these imposters at any official function. The Council also urged media outlets to verify any information about the history of Akrofu with the Traditional Council before publishing, as misleading and false reports have been circulating on some news platforms.
“We are alerting the media and the general public not to recognise these individuals or transact business with them in their fraudulent capacities. Failure to comply will cause them great embarrassment,” the statement warned.
The Akrofu Traditional Council has also called on the security agencies to remain vigilant, as some of these individuals may seek financial gain from the conflict they are inciting.
