Former Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku in the Greater Accra Region, Benita Sena Okity-Duah, has been appointed as the new Coordinator of the Free Senior High School (SHS) Secretariat.
Born on June 19, 1976, in Anloga in the Volta Region, Okity-Duah rose to national prominence in 1997 when she was crowned Miss Ghana at the age of 20.
She had her secondary education at Achimota School before moving to the United Kingdom, where she studied fashion at the prestigious London School of Fashion for four years. Returning to Ghana in 2003, she made her mark in the fashion industry as a notable designer and entrepreneur.
Her foray into politics began when she defeated then-incumbent MP Nii Nortey Dua to win the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Ledzokuku Constituency. She subsequently won the seat in the 2012 general elections, making history as the first former Miss Ghana to serve in Parliament.
During her tenure, Okity-Duah also served as Deputy Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection between April 2013 and June 2014, where she contributed to key social intervention policies.
