Parliament began the debate on the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government today, Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
The budget debate follows the presentation of the policy document to Parliament by the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
As part of the debate arrangements, specific time allocations have been set for Members of Parliament.
The Majority and Minority Leaders will each have 45 minutes, other party leaders will speak for 30 minutes, Ministers will be allotted 15 minutes, Chairpersons and Ranking Members of Committees 15 minutes, Vice-Chairpersons and Deputy Ranking Members 10 minutes, and all other MPs five minutes each.
Meanwhile, to ensure the House exhausts its scheduled business for the week, Parliament will sit for extended hours starting today, March 18, 2025. Due to time constraints and the volume of work, sittings on Mondays will begin from March 24 onwards, particularly the consideration of Annual Budget Estimates and the passing of the Appropriation Bill before the end of March.
