Mahama pledged to nominate all cabinet ministers within 14 days, but he went beyond expectations. In just a month, he has not only nominated but also secured parliamentary approval for 42 ministers, including cabinet, regional, and non-cabinet ministers—an unprecedented achievement in Ghana’s recent history.

2️⃣ Lean and Efficient Government Structure

Mahama also promised to form the “Leanest and Most Efficient” government under the Fourth Republic within 90 days. In just 30 days, he has appointed 56 out of the planned 60 ministerial and deputy ministerial nominees. With only four more appointments left, he is well on track to fulfilling this pledge.

To address illegal mining, Mahama pledged to ban mining in forest reserves and introduce the “Tree for Life” and Blue Water Initiative to rehabilitate degraded lands. In his first month, he directed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to immediately halt illegal mining in forests and water bodies, a decisive move toward protecting Ghana’s environment.

4️⃣ Reopening Investigations into Unresolved Crimes

Mahama vowed to reinvestigate major unresolved criminal cases, including the 2020 election killings, Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence, and the murder of journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale. He has since ordered Inspector General of PoliceDr. George Akuffo Dampare to reopen investigations into electoral violence cases from both the 2020 and 2024 elections.

5️⃣ National Economic Dialogue to Address Fiscal Challenges

To assess the true state of the economy, Mahama promised to hold a National Economic Dialogue. He has since established a seven-member planning committee, led by economist Dr. Ishmael Yamson, tasked with designing the framework for the dialogue, expected to take place soon.

6️⃣ Laying the Groundwork for the 24-Hour Economy Policy

Mahama pledged to begin drafting legal amendments and structures for the implementation of the 24-Hour Economy Policy. He has since appointed Augustus Goosie Tanoh as the Presidential Advisor for the initiative, ensuring strategic leadership in driving this economic reform.

7️⃣ National Education Forum for Sector Reforms

Mahama committed to organizing a national consultative conference on education to improve Ghana’s educational system. In his first month, he has set up an eight-member committee to oversee the National Education Forum, with an official date for the event expected within two weeks.

With 7 out of 26 key promises already fulfilled, Mahama’s first month in office has been marked by swift action and decisive leadership. As his 120-day timeline progresses, all eyes are on his administration to deliver the remaining commitments in his ambitious governance plan.
