The flagbearer of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has slammed the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for mass inauguration of infrastructure projects in the build-up to the December 7 elections, accusing them of double standards.
Mahama referenced a 2016 social media post by NPP stalwart Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, who had argued at the time that the focus should be on addressing economic challenges, not on infrastructure projects aimed at garnering political support.
In recent weeks, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned several major road projects, including the Flowerpot Interchange and Phase II of the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange. These inaugurations come as the NPP intensifies its campaign ahead of the December polls.
But Mr Mahama argues that the NPP’s actions now contradict their earlier stance.
Speaking during his campaign tour in Bawaleshie as part of his final leg in the Greater Accra Region, the former President accused the NPP of hypocrisy and failing to address the pressing needs of Ghanaians.
“How correct are his words eight years ago? So, don’t let them divert your attention. This election is about change and not an interchange. This election is about unemployment and economic hardship.”
“This election is about corrupt and incompetent leadership. Clearly, the NPP administration has failed to make the lives of Ghanaians better. Why we vote in elections to elect leaders is for them to improve our lives. But in eight years, the NPP has taken Ghana 10 years backwards,” he stated.
