The 2024 Flagbearer of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has urged the people of Ajumako Besease in the Central Region to vote for the Leader of the NDC caucus in Parliament, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson in the upcoming elections.
According to him, the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam MP is a steadfast leader for both the constituency and parliament.
Addressing supporters in Besease, the former President declared that the NDC firmly holds the majority in parliament, reinforcing Ato Forson’s role as its leader.
He stressed that this leadership position empowers Ato Forson to champion the interests of the community on a national level.
The NDC’s assertion of majority status stems from Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin’s recent decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant, a move that has sparked legal and political debates. The Supreme Court of Ghana is expected to deliver a ruling challenging Speaker Bagbin’s ruling on Monday, November 11, 2024. The seats in question include Agona West in the Central Region, Suhum in the Eastern Region, Amenfi Central, and the independent-held Fomena constituency in the Ashanti Region.
Despite this impasse, Mr Mahama believes the NDC caucus remains the majority in parliament, with Ato Forson positioned as its rightful leader. He urged constituents to rally behind Ato Forson in the upcoming elections, commending his dedication to community development and commitment to progress.
Mahama also took aim at the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing the ruling government of mismanagement and unfulfilled promises. He asserted that the NPP had come to power on deceptive grounds, only to squander national resources and neglect vital development.
“The NDC is the only party capable of restoring Ghana’s stability and direction,” Mahama said.
