The Judicial Service has okayed the live telecast of the case between the Leader of the NPP Caucus, Alexander Afenyo-Markin and the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin. Mr Afenyo-Markin secured an ex parte application which stayed Speaker Bagbin’s declaration of some 4 parliamentary seats as vacant.
The Speaker subsequently filed an application asking the Supreme Court to overturn its decision, which put his ruling on hold.
According to the Speaker, the Supreme Court had powers to put on hold the rulings of courts and not those of non-judicial bodies like Parliament.
The Supreme Court of the land which has opened its doors to the media for full coverage of proceedings is currently deliberating on the case.
