The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urged to reject the Electoral Commission’s (EC) current stance on the voter’s register, as accepting it may have dire consequences for Ghana’s democracy. The register is allegedly tainted with foreign elements, undermining its integrity.
Allegations of the EC’s collusion with President Akufo Addo to favour a disapproved cabal have raised concerns about the commission’s impartiality. Some leaders, prioritizing peace over justice, remain silent despite knowing the truth. Their willingness to maintain the status quo is alarming.
The NDC must take a firm stance against any perceived injustices. Accepting the EC’s position without challenge will damage public trust and jeopardize Ghana’s democratic future.
Key Concerns with the Voter’s Register:
– Illegal Voter Transfers: 243,540 previous transfers illegally added to 2024 transfers, including repeated illegally transferred names.
– Unidentifiable Voter Transfer Paths: Over 15,000 unidentifiable voter transfer paths due to fake registration.
– Deleted Voters: Due to transfer, 3,957 voters in the 2023 register were deleted from the 2024 provisional register.
The EC must ensure the electoral register’s credibility, and leaders must prioritize justice and transparency. The NDC’s response will shape Ghana’s future and people’s trust in the democratic process.
