‘The Nation’s Manifesto’: Dr. Hassan Ayariga Unveils Bold Plan to Transform Ghana’s Economy

The founder and leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr Hassan Ayariga has launched an ambitious plan for Ghana’s economic future. Titled “The Nation’s Manifesto,” the document outlines a comprehensive range of policies aimed at transforming Ghana into a 24-hour economy, creating sustainable jobs, and enhancing living standards through wage restructuring and innovative reforms.

The launch of the party’s manifesto under the theme, “Transforming Ghana and Restoring Hope,” took place at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Sunday, September 22, 2024.

A key proposal in the manifesto is the introduction of a 24-hour economy, which would implement a three-shift work system across essential sectors to maximize productivity around the clock.

“Our vision for a 24-hour economy will ensure a more productive nation both day and night, creating sustainable jobs and driving economic growth. We may even need to bring in workers from neighbouring countries to sustain the demand.”

Dr Ayariga also announced plans to raise the minimum public sector salary to GHS 5,000 per month and revise the minimum daily wage from GHS 18.15 to a range of GHS 150 to GHS 300.

“Our plan includes a complete restructuring of salaries across key sectors, ensuring that no Ghanaian is left behind. We are committed to making GHS 5,000 the baseline for public sector wages.”

At the core of Ayariga’s manifesto is job creation. He plans to establish job centers in every district, aimed at connecting job seekers with employers while offering essential training and support services. These centres will focus on sectors such as industrialization, manufacturing, mining, and construction.

“We will create a network of job centres that will link job seekers to employers and provide training to improve employability,” he noted.

To stimulate growth in production and manufacturing, Dr Ayariga pledged to provide duty-free port access and eliminate taxes on imported raw materials.

“Our plan to remove taxes on imported raw materials will drive industrial growth and lower costs for businesses,” he stated.

The manifesto also proposes a thorough review of the Ghana Labour Act 2003 (Act 651) to protect workers’ rights and establish an efficient payroll system for timely salary payments. Dr Ayariga stressed the need for monitoring and adjusting conditions of service to ensure fairness and productivity within the workforce.
