‘Inconsistent’ NDC Struggling to Explain 24-Hour Economy Policy – Deputy Health Minister Mocks

A Deputy Health Minister, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has taken a swipe at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing them of inconsistencies in explaining their proposed 24-hour economy policy. The policy has been a key talking point for the NDC’s flagbearer and former President, John Dramani Mahama, who has promised to implement it if given the mandate in the 2024 general elections.

According to the NDC, a 24-hour economy would help address the rising unemployment rate in the country by creating more jobs and incremasing productivity. However, critics, including the Deputy Health Minister who is also Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, argue that the policy lacks clarity and proper understanding, even amongh the NDC’s core supporters.

Speaking at a mini rally organized by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Akim Oda,  Alexander Akwasi Acquah dismissed the NDC’s proposal as poorly conceived and questioned their ability to execute such a policy.

“The NDC keeps talking about a 24-hour economy, but even their own people don’t seem to understand what it entails. How do they expect Ghanaians to buy into something they themselves can’t explain?” he said. “This is another example of their inconsistency. They come up with policies that sound good in theory but have no real plan for implementation.”

He also noted that the NDC’s economic policies, including the 24-hour economy, are nothing more than empty promises aimed at winning votes rather than improving the lives of Ghanaians.

The Deputy Health Minister further urged Ghanaians to critically assess the proposals of the NDC and stressed on the NPP’s record of fulfilling its campaign promises, such as the implementation of the Free SHS policy and the Planting for Food and Jobs programme.
