In a heartwarming turn of events,the King and Overlord of Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-kunuto Jewu Soale I, has expressed satisfaction with Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor’s explanation regarding his alleged involvement in the Damongo Chieftaincy dispute.
Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Damongo and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, visited the Yagbonwura with government officials to clarify his position.
The Yagbonwura had previously banned Jinapor from entering the Jakpa Palace due to alleged actions deemed reprehensible by the Chiefs and people of Gonjaland.
However, after Jinapor’s explanation, the King blessed him as his worthy grandson, welcoming him to the Jakpa Palace and other palaces in Gonja land.
Background
Reports emerged last month about the Yagbonwura’s ban on Jinapor due to his alleged refusal to transfer officials from the Gonja Traditional Council and Savannah Regional House of Chiefs, as well as his alleged interference with Damongo Skin matters. Jinapor issued a statement affirming his respect for the chieftaincy institution and denying interest in the Damongo chieftaincy affairs.
A presidential delegation led by the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, met with the Yagbonwura to resolve the issue. Following this, Jinapor visited the Yagbonwura, explaining his side of the story and reaffirming his respect for the chieftaincy institution.
The Yagbonwura expressed satisfaction with Jinapor’s explanation, acknowledging his humility and commitment to resolving the matter. He blessed Jinapor as his proud grandson, welcoming him to the Jakpa Palace and other palaces in Gonja in Gonja land.
