“Misconduct” Didn’t Appear in Jakpa’s Release Letter from the Military – CDS Reveals

The Military High Command has denied claims that misconduct was one of the reasons for Richard Jakpa’s release from the service.

This comes weeks after a widely circulated letter asserted that Jakpa, the third accused in the ongoing ambulance purchase trial involving the Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, was dismissed from the Ghana Armed Forces due to persistent offences and acts of misconduct.

This came up during today’s court session when the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt Gen. Thomas Oppong-Peprah, took the stand to testify following Jakpa’s subpoena.

Prior to today’s hearing, the letter presented and tendered into evidence by Attorney General Godfred Dame had cited ‘misconduct’ as a reason for Jakpa’s release.

During the CDS’s cross-examination, his lawyer questioned the military top boss on whether misconduct was a basis, to which he responded in the negative.

Lt Gen. Oppong-Peprah also denied ever seeing any court order for the release of Jakpa’s dismissal letter to the AG’s office. Additionally, the CDS was emphatic that he has never received any letter requesting the release of Jakpa’s dismissal letter.

On July 18, Richard Jakpa vehemently denied ever seeing the supposed letter confirming his dismissal from the military since he left the service 17 years ago.

Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, on Thursday, June 27, tendered in evidence Jakpa’s supposed dismissal letter from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Jakpa’s lawyers argue that these claims aim to discredit his testimony in the trial involving the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
