The running mate of the governing New Patriotic Party, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh and the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah Kubi have smoked the peace pipe and rekindled their brotherhood.
Mr Appiah Kubi had publicly opposed NAPO’s selection as Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate, expressing a preference for a candidate more connected to the grassroots, humble, and respectful.
“If it were up to me to choose, I wouldn’t choose him….I would want somebody who would be open with the people on the ground, who would be able to deliver the votes, who would submit to the presidency, and who would be important in bringing Parliament closer to the executive. I don’t see that happening in this equation. He cannot hold my hand, so why would I say that I prefer him? He cannot hold my hand,” the Asante Akim North MP said in an earlier interview.
But matters were put to rest on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, when the NPP MP visited the party’s running mate.
During the meeting, NAPO and Appiah Kubi pledged to work together to ensure the NPP wins the 2024 general elections after exchanging pleasantries.
In a Facebook post, the NPP’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, popularly called Nana B, expressed satisfaction with the gesture, stating that the party is now united and poised to “break the eight.”
