The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has blown the alarm on how an NPP MP secretly acquired GhanaWeb for 1 million euros.
According to him, this acquisition is part of the governing NPP’s broader strategy to control various sectors in a bid to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
Speaking on Accra-based Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana show, Mr Sam George stressed the potential consequences of this alleged takeover, saying GhanaWeb has now become an extension of the NPP’s propaganda machinery.
“It is important that Ghanaians now know that GhanaWeb is no longer that objective mouthpiece. GhanaWeb has now become like Daily Search Light. It is an extension of the NPP propaganda wing,” he asserted.
He also pointed out the takeover is a grand move by the NPP to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
“The NPP is so desperate to win power. They don’t believe that Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Napo on their own strengths can win them power. They need to capture every aspect of the tape.”
Throwing more light on the alleged acquisition, Mr George stated that GhanaWeb, previously known for its neutral stance and balanced coverage of both NPP and NDC opinions, is now owned by a conglomerate named African Web Technologies.
“Our colleague in Parliament on the NPP side paid 1 million euros to take over GhanaWeb. He has installed as the CEO his wife’s brother by the name of David Antwi as the new Managing Director,” Sam George alleged.
