Ghanaian socialite and singer Mona Faiz Montrage, widely known as Hajia4Reall, has been sentenced to one year and one day in jail in the United States for her role in a romance scam.
Hajia4Reall was arrested in the UK on November 11, 2022, following her participation in the Ghana Music Awards UK. She was extradited to the U.S. in May 2023 to face charges related to her alleged involvement in romance scams and other fraudulent activities totalling over $2 million.
In February 2024, she pleaded guilty to the charges and faced a potential five-year sentence. However, on Friday, June 28, after more than a year of legal proceedings, she was sentenced to one year and one day in prison.
According to Inner City Press, the prosecution had sought a 37-month sentence, but the judge opted for leniency.
“I sentence Ms Montrage to one year and one day in prison, the extra day to allow for ‘good time’,” the judge stated.
