The report of the ad-hoc committee set up to investigate the IGP leaked tape saga has been laid before Parliament.
The committee was established by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to investigate the leaked audio discussing an alleged plot to remove Inspector General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare.
Chaired by Abuakwa South MP Samuel Atta Akyea, the committee was assigned the task of probing the leaked audio, in which several senior police officers were heard conversing with former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bugri Naabu, about plans to remove the IGP from office. The officers involved were heard suggesting that the IGP was too professional and difficult to compromise.
The committee’s report was officially laid before Parliament on Tuesday, June 18.
“Report of the Special Committee of Inquiry into the contents of a leaked audio tape of a high-ranking police officer and others in an alleged conspiracy to remove the current Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare and related matters have been duly presented,” the Clerk of Parliament announced.
