The Financial and Economic Crime Division of the Accra High Court has ordered an inquiry into an unauthorized audio recording of last Thursday’s court proceedings. Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe directed National Security to investigate these unauthorized recordings circulating on social media platforms.
During today’s proceedings, the Court issued a stern warning against any further unsanctioned recordings.
Justice Asare-Botwe advised journalists wishing to have access to the proceedings to apply for the official record rather than making their own recordings. She cautioned that failure to comply could result in the trial being held in camera, where only the accused and their lawyers would be present.
The judge’s orders followed an in-camera meeting with counsels for all parties in the Ato Forson trial. This meeting was convened after Deputy Attorney-General Alfred Tuah Yeboah raised concerns about a recording of the court proceedings circulating on WhatsApp.
The Court reiterated that both audio and video recordings, as well as photography during proceedings, are strictly prohibited.
