Where will Alan Kyerematen appoint his ministers from? – Kwame Sefa Kayi asks

Renowned radio broadcaster Kwame Sefa Kayi has questioned how the leader of the Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC), Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, would form his cabinet if elected president.

The Chairman General asked this question on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo,’ considering the fact that Kyerematen is running as an independent candidate.

“If you look at the constitution of the Republic of Ghana, if Alan Kyerematen is to pick his ministers, where will he get them from? The same NPP and NDC members?” he asked.

According to Article 78 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, “Ministers of State shall be appointed by the President with the prior approval of Parliament from among members of Parliament or persons qualified to be elected as members of Parliament, except that the majority of Ministers of State shall be appointed from among members of Parliament.”

Responding to this, a Deputy Spokesperson for Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Richard Nyamah, pointed out cases of individuals who successfully entered parliament as independent candidates, with one even achieving the position of second deputy speaker.

He suggested that Kyerematen could draw from such independent parliamentarians and qualified people who have left the major parties to form his cabinet if he were to win the December election.

“There are certain people who came into parliament on an independent party ticket. Even one of them is now the second deputy speaker of Parliament. So, if one of them can make it into parliament and even attain such a position as an independent candidate, others will definitely do the same.

“Not just the NPP; even the NDC has an issue with party members leaving and running independently. He will pick his cabinet from them if he wins in 2025,” he said.

Nyamah further pointed out that Alan Kyerematen is open to appointing individuals from any political party.

“Additionally, according to Alan, it doesn’t matter if you are with the NPP, NDC, CPP, or independent, if you have a proven track record and a vision to help the country move forward, he will pick you,” he said.
