The Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame has been caught on tape allegedly influencing the third accused person in the ambulance purchase trial, Richard Jakpa to incriminate the Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) released the audio recording at a press conference earlier today, Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
This development follows assertions made by Richard Jakpa in court, alleging that the Attorney General had approached him to assist in building a case against the former Deputy Finance Minister.
During court proceedings on Thursday, May 23, 2024, Mr Jakpa stated that the Attorney-General had engaged him at odd hours on several occasions to incriminate the first accused, Dr Ato Forson.
“If he pushes me, I will open the Pandora’s box. I don’t understand why the A-G will accuse me of defending A1 [Ato Forson] when I’m here to defend myself,” Mr Jakpa added during the hearing.
In response, a statement signed by Deputy Attorney-General, Alfred Tuah Yeboah, dismissed the allegations, stating that Mr. Jakpa had instead proposed plea bargaining or negotiations to the Republic through the Attorney-General, which had not been accepted.
However, during a press conference on Tuesday, May 28, the NDC played a 16-minute-long audio recording purporting to feature the voices of the Attorney General and Richard Jakpa. The party announced that this is the first of several pieces of evidence they intend to release.
Additionally, the NDC publicized screenshots of WhatsApp chats allegedly between the third accused and the Attorney General.
