Gertrude Osei Mensah, a Ghanaian chef, is preparing to make a bold attempt at breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest baking marathon by an individual.
Scheduled to take place from Monday, June 3 to 7, 2024, at Tema Community 1, Samtashie Plaza, Meridian Road, the record-breaking endeavour is expected to span approximately 120 hours. Mensah seeks to surpass the current record held by Irish Chef Allan Fisher.
Fisher’s record, set at 47 hours, 21 minutes, and 21 seconds, was achieved in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from September 25 to 27, 2023.
Expressing her aspirations, Chef Gertrude stated, “I wish to represent Ghana in showcasing my baking craft on this international platform.”
CEO of Bakes and Bites, Chef Gertrude is a former student of Our Lady of Mercy (OLAM) Senior High School in Tema, where she pursued Home Economics. Additionally, she holds a Professional Diploma in Pastry Making, Cake Designing, and Sugarcraft from Cake Tekniks International.
Beyond her personal goals, Chef Gertrude aims to give back to her community by offering free training and mentorship to disadvantaged youth in Tema and Ashaiman.
“It is my desire to train and mentor brilliant, serious and willing but less privileged youth in Tema and Ashaiman in the baking craft for free to promote and throw more light on Technical and Vocational Education and Training(T-VET) and reduce the level of unemployment in Ghana,” she said.
