KNUST Students Renovate Computer Library at Jimle AME Zion JHS

A team of students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Development Management program has revitalized the computer library at Jimle AME Zion Junior High School (JHS) in the Mion District of the Northern Region. As part of their coursework, the students refurbished the library, installed new computers, and devised a maintenance plan. This initiative not only enhances digital literacy but also fosters community engagement, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goal 4.

As part of the Social, Enterprise, and Philanthropic Program (SEaP), an integral component of the MSc in Development Management curriculum, students applied theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios.

Speaking at the handing over of the renovated computer lab in Jimle, Group Leader (SEaP Tamale Team) Zakaria Abdullah stated that the project aimed to improve educational resources and promote digital literacy in the area.

“This new computer lab, equipped with internet connectivity, will broaden digital learning opportunities for over 300 students and teachers. Enhanced access to technology has led to improved academic performance and increased digital literacy within the school community,” he said.

Mr. Abdullah emphasized the need for proper maintenance by both school management and students to ensure the sustainability of the facility.

Mahama Iddrisu, Deputy Director of Supervision and Monitoring in the Mion District, described the refurbishment of the computer lab as timely, complementing government efforts in promoting computer literacy. He commended KNUST’s SEaP Tamale Team for selecting Jimle JHS as their project site, noting that the computers would benefit a larger number of students in the district.

Mr. Iddrisu urged the SEaP team to continue collaborating with stakeholders to extend similar interventions to underserved communities and schools in the region.
