Ejisu By-Election: Over 90,000 Voters to Elect John Kumah’s Replacement Today

Over 90,000 voters are gearing up to vote in the Ejisu by-election set for today, Tuesday, April 30, 2024. The Electoral Commission (EC) is conducting the by-election to fill the vacant seat left by the demise of the late Member of Parliament (MP) and Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah.

Following Dr. Kumah’s passing, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) selected Kwabena Boateng from a pool of nine contenders on April 13, 2024, to vie for the seat. However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the main opposition party, has opted out of participating in the by-election.

Kwabena Boateng is facing strong opposition from former MP Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, who is running as an independent parliamentary candidate after breaking away from the NPP.

The EC, under the leadership of Dr Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Electoral Services, has assured the public of its readiness for the by-election. He stated that all necessary materials are prepared and will be distributed early in the morning. Additionally, election officials have undergone thorough training to ensure a smooth and orderly voting process.

Voting hours will be from 7 am to 5 pm, similar to general elections. After the polls close, results will be announced at the Coalition Centre located at the Catholic Church in Ejisu.
