My Presidency Will Not Burn Your Seized Excavators – Bawumia Assures Galamseyers

The flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has assured illegal miners that their seized excavators will not be burned under his watch as President.

Addressing scores of NPP faithful during a health walk as part of the Kwahu Easter festivities, the Vice President announced a significant shift in the approach to tackling the illegal mining menace.

Among others, he declared that confiscated excavators would no longer be subjected to burning under his administration.

While commending the NPP’s efforts in combating galamsey over the past seven years, Dr Bawumia acknowledged the necessity for a fresh strategy to effectively address the issue.

“We are going to help small-scale miners; we will introduce a mineral development bank to get money for them. There is a new regime for small-scale miners, we will not burn your seized excavators,” he said.

Additionally, he highlighted the achievements of the current NPP administration under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership, asserting that it has outperformed the previous Mahama government across various sectors of the economy.

“Jobs, we have performed better, agricultural growth, we have performed better, Zongo development, we have performed better, roads, we have performed better, airports, we have performed better, interchanges, we have performed better,” he noted.
