Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu ‘ordained’ me as his successor – Afenyo-Markin

The Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has revealed that his predecessor, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu ordained him as his successor.

According to the Effutu MP, the guidance he received from Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, prepared him for the new position he currently occupies.

He recounted seeking advice from the Suame MP during the recent State of the Nation Address.

“My boss, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu will tell you how loyal and humble I have been to his leadership and teachings. Recently, when the President came to the House, I went to him and asked what to do after the President finished his State of the Nation address,” he said on TV3’s NewDay.

“I don’t address him as honourable; I call him sir because the man is 67 and I’m 45. He is old enough to be my dad. He previously took my hand and said, ‘One day you will be my successor.’”

Afenyo-Markin refuted speculations suggesting his involvement in Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s removal and clarified that no individual could unilaterally influence such a decision in the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“It doesn’t take an individual to instigate a thing in such a big party. So maybe they don’t know how the inner workings of the party operate,” he clarified.

Responding to claims of potential divisions within the majority caucus, Afenyo-Markin portrayed disagreements as a natural part of democratic processes. He advocated for transparent communication and regular updates within the NPP, asserting their importance for effective leadership.

Reflecting on his political journey, Afenyo-Markin acknowledged the challenges he faced, emphasizing the virtues of patience and faith.

“I believe that a man must wait for his turn, and if it is not your turn, you can only pray and invoke the virtue of patience from above,” he stated.
