On Sunday, December 24, 2023, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, a Ghanaian woman, embarked on a remarkable endeavour to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon.
The current record, set in 2012 by Indian Sunil Waghmare, stands at 105 hours—a mark that Afua is determined to surpass.
Afua has allocated the period between December 24-27, 2023, and an additional nine hours for her world record attempt.
Afua Asantewaa aims to sing about 2,300 Ghanaian songs for about 117 hours or more to break the Guinness World Records’ longest singing marathon.
Adhering to the stringent rules of the marathon, Asantewaa is required to take a break every 20 minutes after four hours of continuous singing.
Additionally, she cannot repeat a song until after four hours have passed.
Through her singing marathon, she seeks to showcase the extraordinary diversity of music genres such as gospel, highlife, and hiplife, emphasizing the rich musical heritage of Ghana.
