Two students from the Ada Senior High School (SHS) have tragically lost their lives after drowning in the Volta River. The victims, whose identities remain unknown, were believed to be aged between 16 and 18. Sources say, they left the school premises without proper authorization to wash their clothes and swim in the Volta River, which runs close to the school.
The tragedy unfolded when residents in the vicinity noticed the distressed students in the water and rushed to their aid, but, regrettably, their efforts were in vain. The students had already succumbed to the unforgiving waters of the Volta River.
Eyewitness accounts also add that the students had ventured to the river to fetch water, driven by the dire shortage of water within the school premises.
The bodies of the deceased students have since been sent to the district hospital for further examination.
The police have since launched a comprehensive investigation into the tragic incident, seeking to determine the circumstances that led to the drowning of the two students.
