The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has attributed the ongoing water shortages in certain parts of Accra to issues at its Weija treatment plant. This announcement was made in a statement released on Friday, November 3, 2023.
Stanley Martey, the Chief Manager of PR & Communications at GWCL, explained in the statement, “Due to some technical challenges being experienced at our Weija Treatment Plant, there has been a shortfall in the volumes of water currently being produced which has resulted in customers experiencing low pressures in the flow to their properties and erratic flow in other areas.”
He went on to clarify that the situation is the result of a combination of factors, “including faulty equipment, increased demand, routine maintenance works and some unforeseen circumstances.”
The areas affected by these water shortages include Gbawe, McCarthy Hill, Anyaa, Lapaz, Darkuman, and others.
GWCL has assured the public that its engineering team is actively working to address these challenges and restore water supply to the affected areas, offering relief to residents and businesses experiencing water shortages.
