OSP officials allegedly uncover more cash at Cecilia Dapaah’s residence; 5-hour count raises concerns

Officials from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) have discovered yet another significant stash of cash at the residence of the former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah. The find comes just weeks after two house helps were charged with theft involving substantial sums of money from her home.

According to multiple news reports, the duo, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei were charged with theft related to the alleged disappearance of US$1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghana cedis from the minister’s home.

The thefts reportedly occurred between July and October 2022 and included valuable items such as clothes, handbags, perfumes, jewellery, kente cloth, and suits belonging to Mrs Dapaah’s husband, worth thousands of dollars.

This prompted the OSP to arrest the former Sanitation Minister for suspected acts of corruption.

Following hours of questioning, the OSP launched a raid on her residences in Accra in search of vital clues. At one of her homes, officials reportedly spent over five hours counting the large sum of money, adding to the intrigue and calls for a comprehensive investigation into its origin and implications.

Sources close to the investigation report that the cash find has left authorities perplexed, as its sheer amount raises questions about its source and potential ties to illicit activities. Investigators are closely examining the money’s serial numbers, conducting interviews, and exploring any possible links to other ongoing financial probes.

Authorities have also seized documents and electronic devices from Dapaah’s residence to ascertain if there is any connection between the discovered money and other financial transactions.

The discovered money is said to be in various local and foreign currency denominations.

Meanwhile, the former Minister has been ordered to fill out a lifestyle assessment form ostensibly to inquire more into the source of wealth of the former Bantama M.P.

Cecilia Dapaah, once a prominent figure in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration, is now facing increased scrutiny and media attention, with demands for transparency and accountability growing from both the public and political circles.
