Matilda Amissah-Arthur: Former Second Lady reveals how she advised her husband several times to resign as Veep

Former Second Lady, Matilda Amissah-Arthur has revealed how she advised her husband, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur on several occasions to step down from his position as Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.

Speaking to Accra-based Joy News, she explained that she had frequently urged him to resign, but upon further reflection, she recognized the significance of his voice within the government and the potential void his departure would create.

She acknowledged the importance of having someone who would speak out on critical matters, even if their advice went unheard.

“Many times, many times but after I said that (he should resign) I realized that if he goes out, who will say the kind of things he says, so he should be there even if he is not listened to, say it and make a difference.”

“I believe that if you are the only person who is doing the right thing in a place, not just politics, anywhere and you are the only person, don’t be discouraged, stay there and do the right thing, say the right thing, make a difference and it will impact, even if it has an impact on one person, you have done your job.”

She firmly believed that her husband’s presence in the government was necessary to advocate for the right causes and steer the country in the right direction.

Matilda’s revelation offers a deeper understanding of Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur’s commitment to making a positive impact during his tenure as Vice President of Ghana from 2012 to 2016. His untimely passing in 2018 was a great loss to the nation, and Matilda’s insights shed light on his dedication to advocating for what he believed was right.
