The largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has attributed its triumph in the Assin North by-election partly to the sterling leadership of Minority Leader Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.
According to Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC Communications Director, the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam MP played a very instrumental role in securing a decisive victory for James Gyakye Quayson, the party’s candidate in the just-ended by-election.
Taking to Twitter, Mr Gyamfi wrote, “Undoubtedly, our resounding victory in the Assin North by-election was a product of teamwork. However, I would like to single out the Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson for praise.”
“We couldn’t have made it without his sterling leadership, personal sacrifices and immeasurable support.”
Gyakye Quayson obtained 57.56% of the valid votes cast, surpassing Charles Opoku of the NPP, who garnered 42.15%. The LPG candidate secured 0.29% of the votes.
The by-election became necessary after the Supreme Court nullified Gyakye Quayson’s 2020 victory on the grounds he possessed dual citizenship.
He is currently facing charges of perjury and forgery in a criminal case.
