NPP primaries: I’ll be shocked if Alan Kyerematen beats Kennedy Agyapong to second place – Renowned pollster

Renowned pollster, Ben Ephson has predicted the outcome of the presidential elections for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the Managing Director of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, the race for the upcoming flagbearer poll is down to three individuals, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, and former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen.

Delving into his predictions, the pollster highlighted certain factors influencing the rankings. He mentioned that Alan Kyerematen’s absence from parliament 15 years ago has impacted his popularity among younger delegates.

“Alan Kyerematen is suffering from not going to parliament 15 years ago. The delegates were in their early 20s and 30s were 15 years at the time, Kennedy has been an MP for 23 years, and he has been moving around talking about the party, and going to various conferences. I think that if Alan beats Kennedy to second place I will be very surprised.”

Ephson further emphasized that based on his research, Dr Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, and Alan Kyerematen were generating the most interest among delegates. He estimated that these three candidates would collectively secure approximately 80-85% of the total delegate votes, leaving the remaining candidates to contend for the rest.

Among the other candidates who have filed their nominations for the NPP’s presidential primaries in November are Boakye Agyarko, Dr Konadu Apraku, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Kwabena Agyapong, and former MP Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The selection process involves approximately 1,000 super delegates who will determine the top five candidates. Subsequently, around 2,000 delegates will have the final say in choosing the NPP flagbearer from the top five contenders.
