Another officer of the Ghana Police Service has been shot dead in a broad daylight bullion van robbery at Ablekuma Fanmilk, a suburb of Accra.
According to eyewitness accounts, the gang of four (4) robbers travelling in a black unidentified vehicle launched the attack on the bullion van in the afternoon of Thursday, June 22, 2023, shortly after the van parked at the Star Oil Fuel Station near the ECG office in the vicinity.
The robbers are said to have specifically targeted the police officer inside the van and shot him twice, injuring him in the shoulder and abdomen.
In the ensuing melee, eyewitnesses narrated to newsalertgh.com that several rounds of gunshots were exchanged between the robbers and the on-duty police officers at the fuel station.
A visit to the scene of the incident reveals several bullet casings littered on the ground lending credence to the gunfight between the robbers and the police.
The robbers were reportedly successful in the operations and are said to have carted away an undisclosed sum of money.
The police have since launched a manhunt for the gang of robbers whose daring escapade claimed the life of one of its officers providing escort duties for the bullion van.
